With only four weeks before the end of Geek.Kon pre-registration ($20), they are doing extra work to promote their 2009 convention. As part of a special program, fans who advertise Geek.Kon and get pictures of themselves doing so will get featured in a slide show at either opening or closing ceremonies along with a special thanks.
This could be a unique opportunity, and a very creative way to promote a convention: get attendees who are already excited fans to do it for you. With a reported increase in the number of conventions cropping up in recent years, public relations is especially important for conventions, along with general attendee happiness. There are nine other fan conventions on the same weekend as Geek.Kon, and some attendees could be forced to choose which convention in their area to attend.
In other news, the convention reports that hotel rooms are still available at their convention hotel, and that attendees are encouraged to organize room parties and photoshoots on their forums, as they will not officially sponsor either this year.
According to Geek.Kon, scheduled guests for Geek.Kon 2009 include all of the following, with one possible edition before the convention.
Kyle Hebert (voice actor)
Chad Corrie (fantasy author)
Steam Century (steampunk mystery game group)
Fermata (band)
Spoony Bards (band)
Aaron Pavao (game designer)
Geek.Kon 2009 will be held in the Madison Sheraton Hotel from October 23-25, 2009.
