Seishun Con Review
A newbie Anime convention with all the trimmings; Seishun Con held its first convention this year in Atlanta GA. The weather was excellent which meant outdoor photo ops. The turnout appeared to be good too. The convention was in full swing by the time I arrived around noon on Saturday. My plan was to spend the day through the nighttime activities and to take as many pictures as I could. I have to say this again, Anime has the most colourful costumes.
Registration was fast and my program guide was easy to read. The program guide itself at so many conventions causes the most issues. I will note that a couple panels I wanted to attend had been moved since the schedule was posted online and I received my program guide. But, there was more than enough to do. I saw many familiar faces from other Anime events as well as some friends. The costuming panels I attended were informative and all started on time. In fact, with the exception of the rave that night, everything started when it should. There was a costume contest held later that night as well as late night videos.
The convention had most of the main floor in the hotel. There was a dealer’s room, three conference rooms for the main panels and a couple smaller rooms for videos and gaming. The conference rooms were merged together for the larger events, the costume contest and the rave. Everyone seemed to have a good time.
I have to say kudos to the convention organizers. From what I could see everything ran as it should with no real glitches. This was the first convention I had attended that had “intermission” in which nothing was scheduled. Perhaps those intermissions each day helped it to run as smooth as it did. I hope they can continue in this fashion each year as they grow.
