GaymerCon, the first ever announced "gay gaming convention," announced today that game publisher EA will be involved in the 2013 convention. The press release did not specify the level of EA's expected involvement, but GaymerCon also cites recent support from XBox Live, and the President of Penny Arcade.
We've written about Gaymercon previously, when Westboro Baptist church decided to protest the convention. GaymerCon recently ended their Kickstarter fundraising campaign with nearly $100,000 raised.
GaymerCon, the first ever gaming and tech convention focusing on LGBTQ culture, has received a flood of support from the gaming community as a whole. And now the convention is getting the support of one of the biggest names in video games.
Electronic Arts, publisher of hit game series like Mass Effect, Dead Space, Madden NFL, The Sims and Battlefield, marks the first publisher to announce their involvement in GaymerCon.
“EA believes that to be truly innovative, you must be inclusive. We are proud to be a part of this event,” said Ginger Maseda, Global Diversity and Inclusion for EA.
“EA not only publishes some of the best games in the world, but they're the most progressive company in the industry. We're thrilled and honored to have them involved in GaymerCon,” said GaymerCon Operations Director Jack DeVries.
The support from EA comes on the tail of similar support from both the Xbox Live team, and Robert Khoo of Penny Arcade.
GaymerCon leadership is a group of tech and gaming professionals based in San Francisco, Seattle, and around the world. GaymerCon was started by a diverse team ranging from comic book artists to professional fundraisers to engineers - all LGBTQ folks of every creed and color, especially for those of the geeky persuasion.
